Some facts about the homeless issue.

How many people sleep rough each night?
According to the latest figures, collected in the autumn of 2013 and published in February 2014, 2,414 people are estimated to be sleeping rough on any one night.
Is rough sleeping on the rise?
This was up 5% from the estimated number of rough sleepers in 2012, 11% from 2011, and 37% from 2010.

Which areas saw the biggest increases?
Five regions reported an increase in rough sleepers when compared to 2012; the South West, South East, East, East Midlands and North West. The East Midlands reported the largest percentage increase at 50%. In level terms, South East England reported the largest increase in rough sleepers, up 90 from the previous year.

So whats Pack To My Feet all about?

One evening myself and some friends watched a documentary about the struggles of homeless people and the kind people that go out of there way to help the less fortunate.
This led us onto YouTube and we found a few videos of good Samaritans who made up backpacks full of goodies for the people sleeping out on the street and from this 'Pack To Your Feet' was born and we need your help to make a real difference to the local community.

We understand that we are not sorting out the root problems of why these people have no place to stay or what tomorrow will bring them but what we can do is make things a little bit better for them by providing some essentials within a back pack for them to keep and use.

Some examples of what will be included within the packs are as follows:

  • Warm Jumper
  • Gloves
  • Hand sanitiser
  • Hi Energy food
  • Toilet roll
  • Dried fruit
  • Gift card (Gregs etc.)
  • Pen
  • Paper
  • Stamps
  • Phone card
  • Wet Wipes
  • Toothbrush/Paste
  • First Aid Kit

These are just some example of what would be extremely useful for somebody who is finding themselves out on the street and could be the first step into making contact with a friend or family member and even if one person gets back on their feet then this project will be a huge success.

Most of these items can be purchased from pound stores and back packs can be sourced from charity shops so any donations you make will make a big difference.
